Frequently Asked Questions

Everything we get asked about the iHKA Finnish outdoor sauna — sizing, heating, delivery, installation, warranty and care — plus verified reviews from owners across Europe. If you can't find your answer here, our team in Masku and Antwerp is one email away.

About iHKA

What does iHKA mean?

iHKA means 'your own' in an ancient Finnish dialect. The name reflects our belief that a sauna should be a deeply personal space, configured to your wood, heater and exterior preferences and built to last in your own garden.

Where are iHKA saunas made?

Every iHKA sauna is handcrafted in Masku, in southwest Finland, using traditional techniques and Finnish wood from sustainably managed forests. From there, finished saunas ship on a single pallet to our European distribution hub in Antwerp, Belgium, before delivery to your site.

What makes an iHKA different from a generic outdoor sauna kit?

An iHKA is a full Finnish build, not a flat-pack box. The cabin uses 120mm insulated walls with mineral wool, a designed supply-and-exhaust ventilation system, Finnish spruce, pine or aspen interior, and a Harvia Cilindro electric or Mini IKI wood-burning heater. Every unit is professionally assembled in one day, including usage training and a one-year warranty. See our story for the heritage behind the build.

Are iHKA saunas sustainable?

Yes. All wood is sourced from responsibly managed Finnish forests, and our manufacturing in Masku plus single-pallet shipping minimises transport emissions. We design the cabin's ventilation and 120mm insulation to reduce heating time and energy use, and we build saunas to last for generations rather than be replaced.

The Sauna

What are the dimensions of the iHKA sauna?

The iHKA outdoor sauna measures 226cm (width) × 245cm (depth) × 232cm (height) externally, with approximately 5.5m² of interior space. It comfortably accommodates 3 to 4 people with two-tier ergonomic benches. Full specifications live on the sauna page.

How much floor space do I need to install an iHKA?

Plan for at least 260cm × 280cm of clear, level floor space, with safe clearance around the cabin and from any combustible material. We confirm exact site requirements as part of the quotation, including the chimney clearance for the wood-burning option.

Can the sauna be installed indoors?

Yes — the modular design works indoors or outdoors. Indoor installations need adequate ceiling height (we recommend at least 240cm), suitable flooring and, for the Mini IKI wood-burning option, a compliant chimney route. Get in touch and we will assess your space.

How heavy is an iHKA sauna?

Approximately 850kg fully assembled. The cabin ships on a single pallet and we lift it onto its prepared base on installation day. The base must be flat, level and able to support the weight — typically a concrete slab, paving on compacted hardcore, or a structural deck designed for the load.

Configuration & Pricing

How do I get a price for my configuration?

Use our online configurator to choose your interior wood, heater and exterior colour, then submit the configuration with a few delivery details. We come back within one working day with a personalised quote.

What is included in the price?

iHKA offers all-inclusive pricing: the sauna itself, transport to your location, professional single-day assembly, usage training, and a full 1-year warranty. There are no hidden costs.

Can I choose the exterior colour?

Yes, you can choose from five exterior colours: Natural Wood, Black, White, Grey, or Dark Brown. See all five colour options in the configurator.

Which interior wood should I choose?

Finnish spruce is light blonde with a fresh resinous aroma — the traditional Finnish choice. Finnish pine is denser, warmer in tone, and ages into a rich golden brown. Both are sustainably sourced from managed Finnish forests. Read our wood guide for the full comparison.

Delivery & Installation

How long does installation take?

Professional assembly is completed in a single day. The sauna ships fully prefabricated on one pallet, and our trained team handles the complete installation including setup and usage training.

Which countries do you deliver to?

iHKA saunas are manufactured in Masku, Finland and distributed from Antwerp, Belgium. We deliver to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Austria, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, Romania, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

How is the sauna delivered?

The sauna is shipped fully prefabricated on a single pallet and delivered by truck to your site. Our team takes responsibility for transport, lifting the cabin onto its prepared base, full assembly, commissioning and a usage walkthrough.

What lead time should I expect?

Lead times vary by configuration and season, but a typical iHKA is delivered and installed eight to twelve weeks after order confirmation. We confirm exact dates once your configuration is finalised.

Materials & Heating

What heating options are available?

You can choose between a Harvia Cilindro PC90 electric heater (8kW, heats in 30 to 40 minutes, programmable timer) or a Mini IKI wood-burning stove (traditional cast iron, authentic Finnish experience, requires chimney installation). We compare both in Electric or Wood-Fired Sauna Heater.

What electrical supply does the Harvia heater need?

The Harvia Cilindro PC90 runs on either single-phase 230V or three-phase 400V. We will confirm the correct supply for your installation when we quote, and a qualified electrician should make the final connection on installation day.

Do you offer infrared saunas?

No. An iHKA is a real Finnish sauna — heated stones over a wood or electric heater, with löyly (steam from water poured on the stones). Infrared cabins are a different category and are not part of the Finnish tradition. Our article What is a Finnish Sauna? explains the difference in detail.

What stones come with the heater?

Both the Harvia Cilindro and the Mini IKI are supplied with the correct type of Finnish sauna stones (peridotite or olivine diabase, sized 5 to 10cm). These materials are designed to withstand repeated thermal shock from löyly. Replacement stones in the same specification are available from us.

Warranty & Care

What warranty comes with an iHKA?

Every iHKA includes a full one-year warranty covering manufacturing defects in the cabin, the heater, and our installation work. Harvia and IKI heaters carry their own manufacturer warranties on top, and we extend support beyond year one for owners who maintain the sauna per our care guide.

How do I care for an outdoor sauna day to day?

After every session: open the door fully, wipe pooled water from benches and floor, leave the door slightly ajar for one to two hours so the cabin dries completely, and switch off the electric heater (or wait for ashes to cool before closing the wood-stove damper). Five minutes of airing after use is the single most important habit. Our seasonal care guide covers weekly, quarterly and annual tasks.

How often should I have the chimney swept on a wood-fired sauna?

IKI recommends sweeping every three years for occasional holiday use, and annually for any regular or year-round use. In Belgium, sweeping by a registered specialist is a regional regulatory requirement and is normally a condition of household insurance. Always use a flexible nylon brush, never a metal one.

How often should sauna stones be replaced?

Both Harvia and IKI recommend rearranging stones at least annually and discarding any that are cracked or disintegrated. For typical private use, plan a full refresh every three to five years; for intensive use, an annual full replacement is the standard. Our owner's care guide walks through the full annual stone check.

How can I leave a review of my iHKA?
